  • Senior Research Associate

    InSilixa, a Silicon Valley based biotech startup, is looking for an exceptional Senior Research Associate to join its sample preparation team. This position supports the development of novel automated nucleic acid extraction/purifications from clinical samples for downstream detection in our unique diagnostics platform. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary and collaborative team of scientists and engineers in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Hands on laboratory role that includes cell lysis, nucleic acid purification and nucleic acid quantification
    • Design and conduct DNA and RNA extraction experiments from test samples
    • Design/conduct/analyze real-time PCR experiments for accurate nucleic acid quantification
    • Perform droplet digital PCR for absolute quantification
    • Communicate experiment status and progress on a daily basis
    • Summarize, document and present results and progress on a weekly basis
    • Collaborate across disciplines with a team of engineers, chemists, biologists and informaticians

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s or master’s in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or new PhD graduates
    • Must be proficient with PCR, RT-PCR, and real time PCR
    • Must have extensive hands on experience with DNA/RNA and enzymes
    • Ability to design and execute experiments with minimal supervision
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with great attention to detail and record keeping in both lab notebook and electronic documentation
    • Experience with Droplet Digital PCR is a plus (optional)

  • Senior Scientist/Principal Scientists (Scientist II)

    Basic Description:

    InSilixa is seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to lead a variety of R&D projects relevant for its CMOS-based molecular diagnostic (MDx) platform. The primary responsibilities include development of a novel nucleic acid amplification technology while working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and biologists in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to operate independently, design and analyze complex experiments, and prepare rigorous technical reports.

    Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree in molecular biology or related areas with at least 2 years of post-degree experience in biotechnology, preferably in industry or a cutting edge and research-oriented university; or Master’s degree with at least 5 years of R&D experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead R&D projects through all stages of planning/design, testing, optimization and experimental validation;
    • Design effective experiments in collaboration with interdisciplinary team of engineers and biologists;
    • Perform data analysis and perform troubleshooting using state-of-the-art analytical tools and bioinformatics software packages;
    • Thoroughly document and communicate progress with team and senior management; and
    • Effectively train and manage research associate(s) and technician(s).

    Required Skills:

    • In depth knowledge and competency of molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to nucleic acid amplification chemistries (e.g., PCR, LAMP and RCA), DNA/RNA modifying enzymes, and sample preparation/extraction methods;
    • Fundamental understanding of qPCR, DNA microarrays, and next-gen DNA sequencing platforms and their related bioinformatics (both design and analysis);
    • Effective experimental design and analysis using tools such as JMP
    • Self-starter, proactive with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills able to conduct and plan independent research with minimum or no supervision
    • Excellent documentation and communications skills
    • (Preferred) Prior management experience;
    • (Optional) Have skills in handling clinical samples and be able to work in a BSL-2 environment
    • (Optional) Experience with isolation and culturing of bacteria/viruses

  • Sr. Software Engineer

    Basic Description:

    We are seeking an experienced software engineer to join the vibrant, multidisciplinary team of InSilixa! The candidate should be comfortable with multiple programming languages, including those used for back-end and front-end web development, should have experience in cloud system architecture and design, and should be excited about working in a fast-paced startup environment. As a Cloud engineer at InSilixa, the candidate will be working closely with both the R&D and product management teams to ensure the reliability, scalability and performance of the company’s next generation systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and implement full-stack cloud architecture
    • Develop front-end web application
    • Develop back-end cloud logic for driving current and future solutions
    • Port existing software to new platforms
    • Prepare project related documentation, including functional specifications, design specifications, and complete development activities during different stages of a project
    • Work closely with product management and R&D team

    Required Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of modern HTML5/CSS3 and Javascript
    • Demonstrated knowledge of relational and NoSQL database systems, Object Oriented Programming and web application development
    • A solid understanding of how web applications work. Including security, session management, cookies, caching, and best development practices
    • Familiarity with mobile application development
    • Expert level knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: C/C++, Java, PHP, Python, or Ruby on Rails
    • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization techniques and object-oriented programming
    • Experience with public cloud deployment and internals such as AWS
    • Experience with Client/Server, distributed system development
