  • Senior Research Associate

    Basic Description:

    InSilixa, a Silicon Valley based biotech startup, is looking for an exceptional Senior Research Associate to join its sample preparation team. This position supports the development of an automated nucleic acid extraction system and the downstream amplification and detection in our unique diagnostics platform. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary and collaborative team of scientists and engineers in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or master’s in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with 2-4 years of relevant work experience
    • Must be proficient with PCR, RT-PCR, and real time PCR
    • Must have extensive hands on experience with DNA/RNA and enzymes
    • Ability to design and execute experiments with minimal supervision
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with great attention to detail and record keeping in both lab notebook and electronic documentation

    Basic Description:

    InSilixa, a Silicon Valley based biotech startup, is looking for an exceptional Automation Engineer, Process Engineer or Research Associate to join its Array Operations team. This position supports the development and production of printed DNA microarrays and associated component parts for use with our unique sample-to-answer diagnostics platform. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary and collaborative team of scientists and engineers in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a physical science with 3+ years of relevant work experience
    • Affinity towards instrumentation, automation, robotics, prototype equipment

  • Sr. Director/Director of Assay Development

    Basic Description:

    InSilixa is seeking a Sr. Director/Director of Assay Development whose main role is to lead the development of InSilixa’s molecular diagnostics assays, specifically highly-multiplex nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) kits that are integrated into InSilixa’s CMOS chip-based products. The main responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to leading the molecular biology group, implementing rigorous assay validation methods and infrastructure, managing clinical testing using outside entities, and working closely with the bioinformatics and engineering groups for product integration.
    Qualifications:

    • Ph.D./M.Sc. in life sciences or related areas
    • > 10 years of post-degree experience in biotechnology, genomics, or in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) industries with product development and management experiences.

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Lead InSilixa’s molecular biology group, focused on assay development and validation.
    • Direct the design of highly-multiplex NAAT assays for genotyping, expression profiling, and quantification using cutting-edge computational approaches and in silico
    • Design, manage, and oversee assay empirical testing, all the way from feasibility testing to clinical validation.
    • Setup and manage assay validation infrastructure and methods.
    • Manage the molecular biology reagents (enzymes, master mixes, dNTPs, etc.) selection and qualification projects.
    • Oversee the document control activities related to assay design and validation.

    Position Requirements & Experience

    • Have managed teams for the development of highly multiplex assays in IVD;
    • Deep experience with NAAT, specifically multiplex PCR/RT-PCR;
    • Core competency in molecular biology techniques and reagents, including but not limited to nucleic acid amplification chemistries, DNA/RNA modifying enzymes, and nucleic acid extraction methods;
    • Deep understanding of printed and random arrays and their workflow used in DNA microarrays and next-gen DNA sequencing (NGS) platforms;
    • Experience in assay validation in FDA regulated applications/markets;
    • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams that include biologists, biochemists, bio-infomaticians, and engineering; and
    • Capable of adapting to the fast-pace and highly collaborative environment of a startup company.

  • Bioinformatics Scientist

    Basic Description:

    InSilixa is seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join its advanced R&D group focusing on creating CMOS-based molecular diagnostics assays. The primary responsibilities include identifying unique nucleic acid targets, sequences, and signatures in various organisms for nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) and creating novel, automated methods to design primers and probes for highly multiplexed reactions. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to operate independently, design and analyze complex experiments, and prepare rigorous technical reports.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in bioinformatics or related areas with at least 3 years of post-degree experience in bioinformatics, preferably in industry or a cutting edge and research-oriented academic institution; or Master’s degree with experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.

    Responsibilities:

    • Drive bioinformatics projects through all stages of planning, design, computational verification, and empirical validation.
    • Implement novel, innovative algorithms for design of multiplex PCR primers and probes compatible with InSilixa’s NAAT methods.

  • Sr. Software Engineer

    Basic Description:

    We are seeking an experienced software engineer to join the vibrant, multidisciplinary team of InSilixa! The candidate should be comfortable with multiple programming languages, including those used for back-end and front-end web development, should have experience in cloud system architecture and design, and should be excited about working in a fast-paced startup environment. As a Cloud engineer at InSilixa, the candidate will be working closely with both the R&D and product management teams to ensure the reliability, scalability and performance of the company’s next generation systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and implement full-stack cloud architecture
    • Develop front-end web application
    • Develop back-end cloud logic for driving current and future solutions
    • Port existing software to new platforms

    Required Skills:

  • Senior Scientist/Principal Scientists (Scientist II)

    Basic Description:

The primary responsibilities include development of a novel nucleic acid amplification technology while working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and biologists in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to operate independently, design and analyze complex experiments, and prepare rigorous technical reports.

    Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree in molecular biology or related areas with at least 2 years of post-degree experience in biotechnology, preferably in industry or a cutting edge and research-oriented university; or Master’s degree with at least 5 years of R&D experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead R&D projects through all stages of planning/design, testing, optimization and experimental validation;
    • Design effective experiments in collaboration with interdisciplinary team of engineers and biologists;
    • Perform data analysis and perform troubleshooting using state-of-the-art analytical tools and bioinformatics software packages;
    • Thoroughly document and communicate progress with team and senior management; and
    • Effectively train and manage research associate(s) and technician(s).

    Required Skills:

    • In depth knowledge and competency of molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to nucleic acid amplification chemistries (e.g., PCR, LAMP and RCA), DNA/RNA modifying enzymes, and sample preparation/extraction methods;
    • Fundamental understanding of qPCR, DNA microarrays, and next-gen DNA sequencing platforms and their related bioinformatics (both design and analysis);
